As UCF students rode into this election season,\u00a0nonprofit organization\u00a0VoteRiders\u00a0helped students and the community stay informed.<\/p>\n

VoteRiders, as listed on its\u00a0website<\/a>, is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization focused on voter information. The organization\u00a0operates in eight states and assists voters with gathering information and ID recovery assistance.<\/p>\n

Taylor Ashlyn, regional director for VoteRiders in Florida, said that during this election cycle, the organization has been working with UCF students to help promote students\u2019 civic duties and the surrounding communities in Orange and Seminole County.<\/p>\n

One such event held\u00a0Sept. 29 was Writing\u00a0Wednesday,\u00a0hosted by VoteRiders in\u00a0the Live Oak Ballroom at UCF. Aimed toward helping spread awareness about what voting information people needed, the event allowed participants to write messages to help inform voters about what they need to make their vote count, which was discussed during a presentation during the event.<\/p>\n

Each\u00a0letter contained an area for a personalized message and information about voting and what is\u00a0associated with it.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is\u00a0really important\u00a0to remind people of deadlines,\u201d Ashlyn said. \u201cDates such as\u00a0Oct. 7\u00a0for voter information and\u00a0Oct.\u00a024\u00a0for mail-in ballots are important.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ashlyn said that the event emphasized the fundamentals of voting.\u00a0This focus was intended\u00a0not only\u00a0for those receiving the letters\u00a0but also for\u00a0attendees, including Justine\u00a0Miller, freshman business major.<\/p>\n

\u201cI came to this event for a class requirement, but when I found it on KnightConnect, it piqued my interest,\u201d Miller said. \u201cI just recently turned 18, and just being able to vote, help others to get into voting\u00a0and\u00a0gather information for myself brought me to this event.\u201d<\/p>\n
