PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio)<\/em>\u00a0\u2014 As voter ID laws continue to change around the country, at least one group is working to keep the American public informed \u2014 and to help people get the identification documents they need, for free, to vote in this year\u2019s presidential election.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cWe have potential impact on the 2024 elections because of the voter ID laws,\u201d said Krystle Martha Knight<\/a> with the organization\u00a0VoteRiders<\/a>. She says there is a big chance you might not be current with voter ID laws<\/a> in your state, because those laws have been in a state of flux.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe barriers to the ballot are growing. The voter ID landscape has changed dramatically since the last presidential election,\u201d Knight said. “2021-2023 saw an unprecedented explosion of voter ID laws. Millions of voters could be directly disenfranchised because they lack voter ID<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n

She says, in Pennsylvania<\/a>, there are some key voter ID laws people need to keep in mind.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou should be prepared with ID if you\u2019re voting for the first time ever or if you moved to a new precinct since the last time you voted.\u201d<\/p>\n

Knight says that ID can be in the form of a driver\u2019s license, a passport or a multitude of other photo identifications: \u201cany photo ID issued by the Pennsylvania or U.S. government, military ID, student ID \u2014 which is high school and college \u2014 employee ID.\u201d<\/p>\n

She says voter ID laws<\/a> can negatively affect voters who are already disenfranchised, so VoteRiders is helping people get an ID.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are now helping anybody 16 and up get the ID that they need<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n
