2022 has been an extremely difficult year for Rosari Williams, a 54-year-old Floridian who became houseless after losing her mother in January. While Ms. Wiliams received her mother\u2019s inheritance, it remained locked away for several months. The reason: she didn\u2019t have an ID.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Then, she met <\/span>Eli Garcia<\/span><\/a> from VoteRiders.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In June, Ms. Williams told an employee at Kaleo Ministries in Orlando \u2014 where she was living with her grandson at the time \u2014 that she needed help getting an ID. Within two days, Ms. Williams received a call from Eli, VoteRiders\u2019 Florida Organizer, who <\/span>offered her help every step of the way<\/span><\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Eli made Ms. Williams a DMV appointment, requested a new copy of her birth certificate, <\/span>arranged round-trip transportation, provided one-on-one assistance during her DMV appointment, and covered all related costs.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

With an ID, Ms. Williams is now one step closer to receiving her mother\u2019s inheritance. She can also now access child support and housing assistance, two essential benefits that have helped her on her path to stability.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cPeople without any identification or anything \u2014 they\u2019re trapped,\u201d remarked Ms. Williams. \u201cThank God for VoteRiders. I can\u2019t thank you guys enough. Without my ID, my grandson and I would have been still trapped.\u201d\u00a0<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Ms. Williams has three children and six grandchildren. Before she became her mother\u2019s caregiver in 2015, she worked as a dental assistant. She enjoys reading and learning new things. Most of all, she loves to help others.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAt the end of the day, I like helping people,\u201d Ms. Williams explained. \u201cSo as soon as I get my hands on the money that my mom left me, I\u2019m definitely going to help some people, because I never thought I would find myself in the situation that I was in.\u201d<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Aside from starting a nonprofit, Ms. Williams also plans on using her ID to vote.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s one of the greatest things about having an ID,\u201d she said. \u201cIf it weren\u2019t for you guys, I promise you I would have never voted again \u2026 I am going out and I am using my ID to vote. I gotta be heard \u2026 if you don\u2019t go out and participate in anything, what are you going to voice your opinion about?\u201d\u00a0<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Ever since she connected with VoteRiders, Ms. Williams has continued to pass out VoteRiders\u2019 <\/span>voter ID information cards<\/span><\/a>, which contain information about the types of IDs required to vote in each state.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
